Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—but the development is superficial. The causes are limited to the difficulty of the curriculum and attendance rules, which is a narrow interpretation. The effects focus heavily on individual mental and physical health rather than broader societal impacts, such as a lack of innovation or a shortage of skilled professionals in the workforce. The position is clear, but the ideas lack the depth and analytical rigor required for a higher band. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points or provide a final thought.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', 'To conclude'), they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, the transition 'a few initiatives directed towards the effects for their causes' in the introduction is confusing and does not clearly signpost the essay's structure. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'not prefer to choose', 'grasp from every sessions', and 'a few quantity of people'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to express complex ideas with precision. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation and usage prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More precise academic terminology is needed to discuss the topic effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'fields like science needs', 'this may leads to'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'Especially for their graduate program into the university.' While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The majority of the sentences contain errors, which is characteristic of the Band 5 level.
