Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes for the decline in science students and the effects on society. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that science is taught 'theoretically' and lacks 'practical sessions,' this point could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. Similarly, the effects on society are mentioned, but the argument that society will become 'talentless' is a bit of an over-generalization. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully explored rather than just stated, providing a more nuanced perspective on the long-term societal implications.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'due to these reasons' and 'as a consequence' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing, such as the sentence 'which have negative consequences on society,' which is a fragment and lacks a clear connection to the preceding thought. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentences are properly connected would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and contains several errors. You use basic terms like 'less fun' and 'good score,' which lack the precision expected at higher bands. There are also spelling errors such as 'prutical' (practical), 'inthesting' (interesting), and 'mone' (more). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors and the lack of sophisticated collocations or less common vocabulary items prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more academic synonyms and ensuring correct spelling of key terms related to the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('no one become,' 'it have negative impact'), article usage ('the university' vs 'university'), and sentence fragments ('which make learning less effective'). The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of periods to break up complex sentences. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries will significantly improve your score.
