Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes for the decline in science students and the effects on society. The ideas are relevant, such as the perceived difficulty of subjects and the financial allure of other professions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the causes are explored reasonably well, the effects on society are a bit brief and could benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear throughout, and the essay maintains a consistent focus on the topic. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanations or concrete illustrations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, although there are minor issues with pronoun usage (e.g., 'due to its complications'—the antecedent is unclear). Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is arranged in a way that is easy for the reader to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'biodiversity', 'environmental science', and 'rapid career progression'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'long term time duration' (redundant) and 'financial development' (incorrect usage). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'teachers in schools can't guide about'. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Students needs', 'these subjects required'), missing articles ('the' before 'long term time duration'), and awkward sentence construction ('It also affect on modern society'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
