Student answer (Band 5.0)
As we know, there are many different kind of fields in university. People mostly choose that field in which they are interested like arts, engineer and doctor etc. The society not only need science students in their circle they also need doctors and engineers to run a society well.
In my opinion all kind of fields are very important not only science. Everybody have their own goals. Some people want to become doctor and someone want to become a engineer. That is the main reason why majority of the students are not selecting science. In my country their are mostly 35% of student who select science field in their university life. On the other hand, 75% students select different kind of field to achieve their goals.
If we talk about the causes their will be no impact on universities because universities also teach other kind of subjects expect science. They also teach arts, business, MBBS etc. So their will be nun causes that they may face. On the other hand their will no harmful effect causes on a society because we not only need that much students in science field the society also need major degree holders like doctors and engineers.
Science is a wonderful subject but most of the students did not develop their keen interest in it because they have their own goals and they do not need science field to achieve them. The students select their degree according to their passion. I am also a science student because it is my passion to become a scientist.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the prompt effectively. While it mentions science, it does not provide clear reasons for the decline in students choosing science, nor does it discuss the societal effects as requested. Instead, the essay argues that all fields are important and that there are no negative impacts, which contradicts the premise of the task. The ideas are repetitive and lack the necessary depth or logical development required for an academic essay. The response does not engage with the core issues of the prompt, such as potential economic or technological consequences of a lack of scientists, resulting in a superficial treatment of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Ideas within paragraphs are often circular or disconnected, such as the transition between the importance of other subjects and the lack of impact on society. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and sometimes incorrect manner, such as the repetitive use of 'on the other hand' and 'their' (used incorrectly for 'there'). The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's line of reasoning. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively support the structure of an argumentative essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'fields', 'subjects', and 'important'. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'nun' instead of 'none', 'expect' instead of 'except', and 'engineer' used as a field rather than a profession. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or academic arguments. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to the topic, which hinders the clarity of the response and limits the ability to convey nuanced opinions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('Everybody have', 'society not only need'), incorrect word forms ('engineer and doctor' instead of 'engineering and medicine'), and confusion between homophones ('their' vs 'there'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting more complex constructions. Punctuation is basic, and the misuse of 'their' throughout the text significantly affects the readability and professional tone of the writing.
