Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university, there are many causes and effects of it which is described below:
The main reason of not choosing science subject in university is the intreset. University offers many courses and programs for the students which they want to enrolled so due to this 70% of students choose their subject according to there choices.
Second the main reason is high merit for the science subject as compared to arts subject. Students having a high merit setup in the universities and in there test, they have high criteria of numbers for science in which not all the students take admission so they go for a arts subject.
Third the most important causes is high fees, In the government universities the merit is so high and in semi government and private sector demands a large amount which can't be afford by all the students.
The effects of all these causes on the society is not having a young doctors, engineers, IT developers and many other science field relative and in others fields there are unemployment due to large numbers of same fields students and they don't do a job of sciences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is insufficient. The ideas are presented in a list-like format rather than being fully explored. For instance, the point about 'high merit' is mentioned but not clearly explained in terms of how it discourages students. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly limits the depth of the argument. To improve, you should expand on each point with specific examples or logical consequences, ensuring that the discussion of societal effects is more detailed and analytical rather than just listing professions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic signposting such as 'The main reason', 'Second', and 'Third', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the paragraphing is poor; the entire body of the essay is fragmented into very short, underdeveloped paragraphs. The transition between ideas is often mechanical, and the logical flow is hindered by the lack of cohesive devices within sentences. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to') and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'reasons', 'subjects', and 'high'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'high merit setup' and 'science field relative', which are not natural English expressions. Some errors, such as 'intreset' (spelling) and 'can't be afford' (grammar/lexical confusion), occur. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations. Expanding your range of synonyms will also help avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'which they want to enrolled' (incorrect verb form), 'there choices' (confusing 'there' with 'their'), and 'we will having' (incorrect tense). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complex forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and the distinction between homophones like 'there', 'their', and 'they're'. Practicing complex sentence structures will also help improve your range.
