Student answer (Band 6.0)
Students in many nations are no longer enthusiastic in studying science anymore in higher institutions. This essay will explore the probable causes of this issue.
First, the science field is very demanding and requires continuous learning and innovations. Not every one has the intellect to match up such requirements. Science plays a significant role as majority of the facilities that are used operate day to day activites including computers, aeroplanes, rockets and various other machines are invented due to scientific researches and developments. Most people choose not to venture into that specialty because they cannot meet up with the continuous discoveries and findings needed to keep improving and making these facilities seamless. For instance, I had a colleague in high school that wanted to become an engineer, but due to subsequent poor performances in the examinations required required for him to get into the department, he was forced to withdraw and they decided to try out another specialty in arts. This example illustrates how not having the intelletual capabilities can be a hindrance for many people who and keen in science.
Also, not everyone is interesed in science. Some people derived joy in utilising their natural abilities like drawing, playing sports or even craftmanship. Arts is equally valuable as much as science and is also a demanding field as well. For instance, the entertainment industry keeps the environment lively and also helps people to connect with one another. For instance, Burna Boy who is a naturally gifted prolific singer in my country, always has concerts sold out at every performance he attends. Even though he doesn't have any academic background.
Science is paramount and requires more individuals in the field, less people in the field will bring about shortage in technical know-how.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—but the development is uneven. The causes are discussed in terms of academic difficulty and personal interest, which is relevant. However, the section on the effects of this trend on society is underdeveloped. You mention a 'shortage in technical know-how' in the final sentence, but this is not expanded upon or linked to broader societal consequences. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more depth regarding the impact on society, such as economic stagnation or a lack of innovation in critical sectors like healthcare or infrastructure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'First' and 'Also' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the discussion of science and the example of the singer is abrupt. The concluding paragraph is very brief and lacks a cohesive summary of the points raised. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong concluding sentence would enhance the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'intellectual capabilities', 'prolific', and 'paramount'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'enthusiastic in studying' (should be 'enthusiastic about') and 'derived joy in utilising' (should be 'derive joy from'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'match up such requirements'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations and topic-specific terminology would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'majority of the facilities that are used operate day to day activites' (missing articles and awkward phrasing), 'less people in the field will bring about' (should be 'fewer people'), and 'required required' (repetition). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in verb agreement. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
