Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some would argue that students are not interested to enrol in science subjects in some nations. This essay will first discuss the main reason as no formal encouragement to participate in research in secondary schools and then provide lack of research facilities as a major effect on society.
The foremost cause of not choosing science by students is that schools are not providing enough tools to encourage students about advantages of taking science in higher education. Schools provides numerous options for students to choose which subject they are interested in. In some schools, lack of proper laboratories to do experiments promoting this scenario. As a result, learners are not aware how they can learn difficult equations easily by actually performing the reactions in the science labs. For instance, when I was in class 10, there was only one lab in my school for 100 students and teachers only take us to the lab once in three months, making it difficult for students to learn in an effective way.
The primary effect of not studying science is reduction in medical research facility. The benefits of science and technology are inevitable; it not only provides modern techniques to help in curing disease but also provides harmless, painless, and convenient resources to help the society. Consequently, Government has to call people from different nations to fulfil demand of healthcare departments, and this is putting significant pressure on economy of the country. A clear example can be seen in developed, richer nations as well, where despite having all the facilities immigrants are working in medical, science, research and technology departments.
To conclude, science is indispensable field for all nations, and lack of human power in this field is putting pressure on law and enforcement organizations because schools are not fully developed to encourage students about why it is so essential for people to learn about science. I believe that Government have a moral obligation to provide enough resources and free education for students who enrolled in science units in higher education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of laboratory facilities and the subsequent reliance on foreign medical professionals. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The link between the lack of science students and the pressure on 'law and enforcement organizations' in the conclusion is unclear and not supported by the preceding arguments. While the position is generally clear, the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of the causes beyond just school facilities, such as curriculum design or career prospects, to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The foremost cause', 'As a result', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise. For example, the connection between the final paragraph's mention of 'law and enforcement' and the rest of the essay is disjointed, which disrupts the logical flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within the final paragraph could be improved to ensure a smoother transition from the body arguments to the conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'indispensable', 'enrol', and 'healthcare departments'. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'encouragement to participate in research' instead of 'encouragement to pursue scientific studies' and 'fulfil demand of healthcare departments' which lacks an article. The range is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the economy', 'the society'), subject-verb agreement ('Schools provides', 'Government have'), and preposition usage ('interested to enrol' should be 'interested in enrolling'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on consistent subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are recurring issues throughout the text.
