Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many regions, it is often argued that a majority of students do not study science at university. In my opinion, it is because they really know the value of technical study beacuse our society is rising rapidly in technical basis. This will lead to a negative effect on our state . The essay below will discuss the reasons for not choosing science and the effects it has on our region in support of my answer.

To begin with, studying science can be beneficial for us but not good as studying computer. For instance, students who are not choosing science it is because in todays era science do not provide us opportunities as compared to computer. As a result, studing computer can leads our society into an achievement.

The cause for not choosing science is that if there are not enough professional workers in science field this can be failure for our region. Moreover, there is lack of doctors in our society. So, when somebody become sick there's not a good consultant who guide a patient properly. Therefore, this trend leads our society into a serious difficult situation.

To sum up these factors, there are some good things and also a bad things about not choosing science. However, we know that our society is rising in tech industry but we also have to focus on science study. Otherwise, we all will be in difficult condition. So, we all have to pay attention on science as we are paying in computer field.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—but the development is superficial. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the claim that students prefer computer studies over science is mentioned, but the underlying reasons (such as career prospects or curriculum difficulty) are not explored in detail. The effects on society are limited to a brief mention of a lack of doctors, which is a narrow interpretation of the broader societal impact. The position is somewhat unclear due to the contradictory nature of the introduction and the body paragraphs. To improve, you should provide specific, well-explained examples for each point made.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'To sum up', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. For example, the transition 'The cause for not choosing science is that if there are not enough professional workers...' does not logically follow the previous paragraph. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the relationship between the causes and the resulting societal effects. More varied and precise linking words are needed to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. Phrases like 'good things', 'bad things', and 'difficult situation' are overly simplistic for an academic task. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'technical basis' and 'studing computer can leads our society into an achievement'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to education and societal development, rather than relying on basic, informal language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as 'students who are not choosing science it is because' and 'somebody become sick there's not a good consultant who guide'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. These frequent errors, while not always preventing understanding, are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. Increasing the variety of sentence structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your score.
