Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes (financial burden, difficulty of study) and the effects (stagnation of technological progress). However, the development is somewhat superficial. The arguments regarding the causes are repetitive, and the discussion on the effects lacks specific examples or a deeper analysis of how society would specifically suffer beyond general statements. The position is clear, but the ideas could be extended further to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit awkward in its phrasing, but it sets up the essay structure adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'To sum up', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'while, with no economic problem' in the second paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'science', 'subjects', and 'development'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'fever pupil' (likely meaning 'fewer students') and 'hard work word'. The student attempts to use academic vocabulary, but the collocation is often unnatural, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage. Examples include 'students comes from low financial budget' (subject-verb agreement), 'leaning science cost' (spelling/verb form), and 'these all development remained' (pluralization). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the punctuation is often faulty, particularly with comma usage.
