Student answer (Band 5.5)
Since the last few years, attraction towards pursuing a career in science feild has reduced significantly, which resulted in choosing science courses by just a few number of students at universities in multiple countries. Undoubtedly this is a serious problem so in this essay, we will be figuring out its causes and effects on the society.
There are multiple causes of of not choosing science for higher education. Firstly, lack of awareness can be labelled as the root cause of this problem. For instance, most of the students do not know about what kind of career options they can have in science field and which science fiels they should choose according to their intrests whether they should go for civil engineering or mechanical engineering.
Furthermore, the second and major problem is that they beleive in rumours, which state the rigrousity of science subjects, which push students away from scince. These both problems are required to be addressed and best way of doing it is organizing career counceling sessions for students by gonernment or institutes themselves.
Not choosing science by enough students will affect the society in longterm. Firstly, there will be an element of ignorance among the individuals, because in my opinion, science provides wisdom, Secondly, there will be a significant reduction can be seen in number of engineers and scientists after few years, which lead to lack of innovations in the country can push us back to stone age. That's why it is integral for the students to choose science also for wellbeing of society.
To conclude, I would say that it is reallt a huge problem in many countries where students hesitate to choose science and in above paragraphs i have mentioned its major causes and effects on the society and we can curb this problem by proper career counseling of students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on 'lack of awareness' is brief and lacks specific, illustrative examples beyond mentioning engineering fields. The effects section touches on 'ignorance' and 'lack of innovation,' but these points could be expanded with more depth to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the overall argument feels slightly repetitive in its structure. To improve, ensure that each cause and effect is fully explored with more detailed reasoning and concrete evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore,' 'Firstly,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the causes and the proposed solutions within the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more sophisticated to better separate the causes from the effects and the proposed solutions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('feild', 'fiels', 'intrests', 'rigrousity', 'scince', 'counceling', 'gonernment', 'reallt') and minor collocation issues. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovations' and 'career counseling,' the range is somewhat limited. The repetition of basic words like 'problem' and 'choose' suggests a need for a wider variety of synonyms to demonstrate more flexibility and precision. Improving spelling accuracy and expanding the range of academic vocabulary will significantly enhance the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Since the last few years' (should be 'Over the last few years'), 'resulted in choosing science courses by just a few number of students' (awkward phrasing), and 'These both problems are required to be addressed.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be beneficial.
