Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth and clarity. While you identify some causes, such as the perceived difficulty of science and financial constraints, the discussion on the effects on society is extremely underdeveloped and dismissive, stating there is 'not major effect'. The task requires a balanced exploration of both causes and effects. The ideas presented are repetitive and lack specific, relevant examples to support the arguments. To improve, you must ensure that both parts of the question are given equal weight and that your arguments are supported by logical reasoning rather than generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. Paragraphing is used, but the internal organization of ideas is weak. There is a lack of logical progression, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'there are many other issues'). The sentences are often run-on, and the lack of proper punctuation makes it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your arguments. You should focus on using linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more effectively and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple phrases like 'not much' and 'there are many'. There is little attempt to use academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to education or societal impact. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'cases' instead of 'causes'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary by using more precise terms and collocations related to the topic of university education and scientific development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'not much students'), sentence boundaries (run-on sentences), and the misuse of articles and prepositions. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. Punctuation is largely absent, which makes the text difficult to parse. Focusing on basic sentence construction, including proper capitalization and full stops, is essential for improvement.
