Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to develop ideas. While the essay introduces the topic and mentions causes, it fails to address the effects on society entirely due to the incomplete nature of the text. The response is essentially a fragment, preventing a full discussion of the prompt. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, and the ideas remain underdeveloped. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full, structured essay that covers all parts of the prompt with sufficient supporting detail and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is too short to demonstrate a clear logical progression or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction, the essay cuts off abruptly in the second paragraph. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the lack of a complete structure makes it difficult to assess the flow of ideas. To achieve a higher band, you need to organize your writing into clear paragraphs with a logical introduction, body paragraphs that develop specific points, and a conclusion, using linking words to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are errors in word choice, such as 'following there passion on art' (should be 'their passion for art') and 'choosing science subject' (should be 'choosing science subjects'). The range of vocabulary is very limited, which is expected given the length of the response. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you are using the correct prepositions and word forms in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
There are several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'it' instead of 'It' at the start of a sentence) and spelling mistakes ('there' instead of 'their'). The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. The incomplete nature of the text also limits the assessment of grammatical range. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, capitalization, and proofreading for common errors like homophones.
