Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is inconsistent. While you identify reasons like high tuition fees and lack of facilities, the explanation is often unclear or repetitive. For example, the section on IT sectors is vague and does not clearly link to why students avoid science. The effects on society are mentioned in the conclusion, but they are not fully explored or supported with logical reasoning. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and provides a well-developed explanation with concrete examples, rather than listing ideas briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and grammatical errors. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To commence' and 'Moreover', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, making the flow of the argument difficult to follow. Referencing is also problematic; for instance, in the second paragraph, the transition between the IT sector and the government's role is disjointed. To achieve a higher score, focus on using linking words that accurately reflect the logical relationship between sentences and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, coherent theme.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'many', and 'science stream'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'weather' instead of 'whether' and 'resent' instead of 'recent'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the precision of your argument. To improve, try to expand your vocabulary by learning collocations related to education and economics, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms. Using more specific terminology would help convey your ideas more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many company are prefer'), sentence structure (e.g., 'they students are can't afford'), and word order. Complex structures are attempted but are usually inaccurate, leading to confusion. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting complex ones. Reviewing the use of articles, pluralization, and verb tenses will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
