In the recent years many pupils are selecting non scentific courses in universities and other education institutes in many countries. Majority of science courses are hard academically and take longer duration of time to complete study which leads students to choose other easy commerce and arts courses. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes (academic difficulty and high costs) and the effects (reduced innovation and a knowledge gap). The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, though the explanation of the 'knowledge gap' could be more precise. The position is clear throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are integrated more smoothly into the argument rather than appearing as isolated statements. The conclusion is a bit brief and could better synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs to provide a more comprehensive summary of the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'also', 'moreover', and 'in conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the cost of courses and the specific example of the US could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel repetitive, which slightly impacts the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'rigorous' and 'technological advancement'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'non scentific courses' (non-scientific), 'hardsheeps' (hardships), and 'socity' (society). Additionally, phrases like 'proper growth manner' are slightly unnatural. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and refining collocations to ensure a more academic tone throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Reduced interest... are seen', 'most of courses are'), article usage ('in US'), and pluralization ('researchs', 'machinary'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Current generation is lack knowledge'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would significantly improve the score in this criterion.
