Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the causes and effects of students avoiding science, but the ideas are largely underdeveloped and often unclear. While the prompt asks for reasons and effects, the arguments provided—such as 'teachers teach friendly' or 'science is the most power full subject'—lack logical depth and specific examples. The essay struggles to maintain a clear position, and the content is repetitive, particularly in the second half of the essay where the same phrases are recycled. The response fails to provide a coherent analysis of the issue, resulting in a limited response to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect, such as the repetitive use of 'To commence with' and 'To elaborate it'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The conclusion simply repeats the confusing points made in the body paragraphs rather than synthesizing the argument. Overall, the flow of ideas is disjointed and lacks the necessary logical links to guide the reader effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The writer relies on basic words and struggles with collocations, such as 'science do not choose for student' or 'produce science product'. There are frequent errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'stress full' instead of 'stressful' and 'power full' instead of 'powerful'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of terms often impedes the clarity of the message. The writer does not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort meaning. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many run-on sentences and fragments. Subject-verb agreement is consistently problematic, as seen in 'student do not interesting science' and 'many nations not enough students are choosing'. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While there is an attempt at complex structures, these are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read and understand.
