Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (difficulty, preference for other subjects) and effects (shortage of professionals, reliance on foreign experts). The ideas are relevant and generally developed, though the explanation of the causes could be more nuanced. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of the effects is somewhat repetitive, and the examples provided, while relevant, are slightly simplistic. To reach a higher band, ensure that the link between the causes and the specific societal impacts is more deeply explored rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'this thing can creates real mess that'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety and precision to move beyond a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovation', 'renewable energy', and 'technological fields'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'science consider as a major curriculum', 'trainees often interested', and 'appreciative opportunities'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range and a lack of control over more sophisticated lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Frequent issues include subject-verb agreement ('this thing can creates'), article usage, and awkward phrasing ('the world have to face'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. More attention to proofreading and mastering basic sentence patterns is required.
