Student answer (Band 5.0)

In contemporary world , many countries not enough student choosing to study science at university . Biggest reason is that nowadays, students have many options than studying science . Most common subject they study is Arts because it have many categories but it affect people in society . Science help people to get knowledge . It cause because of people interest . People think science is only in medical fields which in cause make low percentage of student to study and university could not earn properly . Another reason is science become so difficult for students so students leave it and then it effect society by having low amount of teachers , scientist and doctors . If there will no science in any country it affect country future . For example if there are 20% students are science and 80% are in arts then how will people get medicines of their injuries and health problems . It also effect future of doctors , philosophy and for medicine related it's bad people cannot recover easily without proper checkup in person . Firstly for any country having less amount of science department it's dangerous for upcoming generation there will be no solution of their problems and lastly, without medicine body can't cure . Biggest example is in 2018 Corona Virus come so scientist make medicine and people cure through it . If their is no science there is no cure . In conclusion for any country safety and growth it's important to have more students of science for good future and for health benefits .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—but the development is superficial. While you identify reasons like the perceived difficulty of science and the appeal of other subjects, the explanations lack depth and specific evidence. The discussion on effects is repetitive, focusing heavily on the need for doctors and medicine without exploring broader societal implications like technological innovation or economic growth. The position is clear, but the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sophisticated reasoning. To improve, aim to provide more detailed examples and explore the consequences of a lack of scientific graduates in a more structured, analytical way.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks clear paragraphing, which is essential for a high band score. The entire response is written as a single block of text, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices (e.g., 'Another reason', 'Firstly', 'In conclusion'), they are used mechanically and do not always create a smooth flow between sentences. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of clear topic sentences and transitions between the causes and the effects. Organizing your response into distinct paragraphs for the introduction, causes, effects, and conclusion would significantly improve the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', 'people', and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'in cause make low percentage' and 'it effect society'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and societal development, and pay closer attention to word forms (e.g., using 'affect' as a verb and 'effect' as a noun).

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('in contemporary world'), subject-verb agreement issues ('it affect society'), and incorrect verb tenses. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'If there will no science in any country it affect country future' contains multiple errors in structure and tense. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and using a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
