Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with focus and relevance. While you identify causes (e.g., the emergence of new fields like AI), the explanation of why students are choosing these over science is somewhat muddled. The second part of the prompt—the effects on society—is only partially addressed. You mention innovation and healthcare, but the argument is incomplete and ends abruptly. To improve, ensure you clearly separate the causes and effects into distinct paragraphs and provide a more direct link between the decline in science enrollment and the specific societal consequences. The conclusion is missing, which prevents a clear summary of your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often interrupted by unclear transitions and awkward phrasing. For example, the shift from computer science to arts and history in the third paragraph feels disconnected from the main argument. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'Hence, we saw a dramatic change' or 'On the other side'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'dramatic loads of students', 'expecting field', and 'passing years'. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'artificial intelligence' and 'data mining', which is positive. However, the repetition of basic words and the misuse of terms like 'organic medicines' (in a context where it seems to mean something else) limit your score. Focus on learning word families and common collocations related to academic and social topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there are a vast variety of related branches has present'), article misuse, and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and the incomplete sentence at the end of the text. While the meaning is usually understandable, the density of errors is high. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization before attempting more complex structures.
