Student answer (Band 6.0)
Students tend to decide fron the very early age that what are their goals and what stream should they choose at university. Among all the subjects, I presume that science is the toughest of all streams. Many students may select their stream only because it's simple, easy or uncomplicated. Many tough fiels of study have less students as compared to feasible fields. So it's normal for students not to choose science but other subjects.
In many countries, not enough students are choosing to study science at university. The possible causes can be because of the difficulty level, huge syllabus, vast knowledge and etc. It is quite common for good students to choose science as they may love to study or simply because they can handle the pressure of the subject.
But this lead to several negative effects on society. If the number of students to choose science keeps declining then the society will loose people with science field. The university which offers to educate science will not have enough enrollment of students, gradually affecting the fundings of the universities. Eventually the competition for other subjects will increase and despite having limited seats, students will demand more admissions. More than enough students in a subject means rise in the competition for job and work. And the day will come, when science graduates will be minimised significantly from the society leading to shortage for them and their job. So, to avoid this, education system must try to motivate students to choose different subjects for University level. Students should also stop to assume that science is complicated but they should watch the creative side of science.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (difficulty, syllabus size) and effects (funding issues, job market competition). However, the development is somewhat superficial. The ideas are presented but lack depth or concrete examples. For instance, the mention of 'funding' is a good point, but it is not expanded upon to explain how this impacts the broader economy or scientific innovation. The position is clear, but the argument remains at a general level throughout. To reach a higher band, you should provide specific examples or more detailed explanations for each point raised to demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Many' at the start of sentences. Some transitions between ideas are abrupt, particularly the jump from the causes of low enrollment to the effects on society. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the society will loose people with science field', which is grammatically awkward and hinders the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'feasible fields' instead of 'less demanding subjects' or 'minimised significantly' when referring to the number of graduates. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'fiels' for 'fields' and 'loose' instead of 'lose'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday terms. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and societal trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'decide fron the very early age', 'this lead to', and 'the number of students to choose science'. The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb tenses and prepositional usage, to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
