Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of the countries are facing a conundrum because students are not opting for natural sciences at higher-academic institutions. Science plays a vital role in building the infrastructure of a country. It helps in researching and developmental processes. In this essay, I will describe why students are not mastering sciences and how does it affects our society.

Fewer students are choosing science because it is a complex subject and demands extra workload which cannot be fulfilled by most of the students because of their academic pressure and lack of confidence for problem solving situations. So,they prefer not to go for science as it is as difficult and frustrating as mathematics. For instance, as the students consider science a dilemma so they choose humanities instead of physics.

Some other students do not choose science because of professional prospects. In their perspectives, the other subjects would secure their future, they will be able to acquire more career opportunities with high salaries. Nowadays, most of the students go for AI, Law, Social Services because in their opinion, these jobs will save them in upcoming time and they will earn a handsome amount for their living. For instance, individuals select social services because they can also take them as remote jobs. Thus become for convenient for living their life to the fullest.

Another reason students do not select science is because fewer graduates have resulted in a lot of empty specialised positions and the local-market gap is increasing incredibly day by day. Fewer graduates result in lack of skilled workers and a lot of technology and science masters are asked for and called from overseas. We then have to highly pay them for their jobs and we don't know if they are either a traitor.

In conclusion, while both the points are valid but we should teach our students the importance of gaining scientific knowledge and then, we, as a Nation would be on the way to progress in a significant manner.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. However, the development is uneven. While the causes (difficulty of the subject and career prospects) are explained, the effects on society are less clearly articulated. The fourth paragraph attempts to discuss the impact of a lack of graduates, but the argument becomes somewhat confused, particularly with the irrelevant and illogical suggestion that overseas workers might be 'traitors'. To reach a higher band, ensure that the effects on society are discussed in a more objective, analytical manner, focusing on economic or technological stagnation rather than speculative or emotive claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Thus', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'while both the points are valid' in the conclusion, which does not clearly link back to the preceding arguments. The transition between the causes and the effects is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'conundrum', 'specialised positions', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'save them in upcoming time', 'highly pay them', and 'living their life to the fullest'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly less precise. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using academic vocabulary in a more natural, contextually appropriate way rather than relying on direct translations or slightly misused complex terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('how does it affects'), article usage ('the local-market gap'), and punctuation (missing spaces after commas). Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'Thus become for convenient for living their life to the fullest'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Increasing the accuracy of basic sentence construction and proofreading for minor slips would significantly improve the score.
