Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (difficulty, parental pressure, costs) and effects (economic damage, reliance on imports). However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'high expenses' is mentioned but not fully explored in relation to the global context. The ideas are relevant, but the explanation lacks depth and specific examples that would elevate the response. The position is clear, but the overall argument could be more robustly supported to reach a higher band. The response is balanced, covering both aspects of the prompt adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'There has been ongoing issue, that in some regions...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the effects. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the internal cohesion within sentences could be improved to ensure a smoother reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'given fewer importance' (should be 'less importance') and 'expertises' (which is uncountable). The student relies on basic vocabulary like 'hard', 'good', and 'helpful'. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'Many students finds' (subject-verb agreement), 'in many country' (pluralization), and 'it do affects' (incorrect auxiliary verb usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in article usage and sentence construction. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
