Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the argument that students avoid science because they are 'not that much intelligent' is a generalization that lacks depth and academic support. While the essay identifies relevant points like economic growth and healthcare, the explanation of these points is somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced reasons for the decline in science enrollment—such as the perceived difficulty of the curriculum or the competitive nature of other sectors—and explore the societal impacts with more sophisticated reasoning rather than repeating the same points about healthcare.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Morever' (misspelled) and 'Hence'. Some transitions feel forced, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing. For example, the transition between the discussion of student intelligence and the impact on society is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'distinguish things' instead of 'distinct fields' or 'innovation of distinguish things'. Additionally, there are frequent spelling errors like 'esential', 'Morever', 'intrested', and 'buisness'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to academic and scientific contexts and pay closer attention to spelling, as these errors occasionally distract the reader from your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences often contain grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'development of science cannot be occured' and 'people can be suffered'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical errors—particularly with verb forms and sentence construction—prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like 'can be suffered' (should be 'may suffer') will help improve your score.
