Student answer (Band 5.5)
It has been seen through out the years that now several students are not willing to learn science subjects at university. It is the worst situation for the society to be overcome. In this essay I will discuss the reasons and its effects with the aid of different relevant examples.
Lets commence , the first cause is that the students of our country are lazy and careless. So due to this reason they want to elect those subjects in which they have to put their less efforts to meet success. Such as my friend Ali who is very intelligent and have a great interest in science but he chose to study literature so that he can score high CGPA in it and get good job .
Secondly , science students are not well supported by the society . May be due to hate or other things. For instance , Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan who made atom bomb for Pakistan but after this he had to spend his remaining days of his life in prison. So this kind of attitude of government demotivate students.
Other significant factor is that proper science labs to perform experiments are not available in fast growing countries . As well as the government also do not take interest in this department.
As a result , the number of scientists are reduced and a lot problems are producing such as air pollution, competition for energy resources, health problems and so on. So government should introduce new policies to overcome this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is uneven. While the causes are identified, the explanation is somewhat superficial and relies on anecdotal evidence (e.g., the mention of 'Ali') rather than broader academic or societal analysis. The effects are mentioned briefly at the end, but they are listed rather than explored in depth. The position is clear, but the overall argument lacks the sophistication required for a higher band. To improve, you should expand on the implications of these trends with more formal, generalized reasoning rather than personal examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward. For example, 'Lets commence ,' is an informal and unnatural way to begin a body paragraph. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, such as the jump between the discussion of government support and the lack of lab facilities. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show logical relationships rather than just simple sequencing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are some instances of unnatural phrasing, such as 'worst situation for the society to be overcome' and 'put their less efforts'. The use of 'elect' for 'choose' is also slightly inaccurate in this context. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. Incorporating more academic collocations and topic-specific terminology would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('he... have a great interest'), incorrect article usage ('the number of scientists are reduced'), and awkward punctuation (spaces before commas). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation would be a highly effective way to improve your score.
