Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 179 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the causes and effects are addressed only in a superficial manner. While the prompt asks for causes and effects, the arguments provided are underdeveloped and lack specific examples or logical depth. The response is too brief to fully explore the complexities of the topic, resulting in a fragmented and incomplete discussion. To improve, you must expand each point with detailed explanations and concrete examples to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the flow of ideas is disjointed. The introductory notes at the beginning are confusing and do not form part of a cohesive argument. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, making the progression of ideas difficult to follow. For example, the transition between the causes and the effects is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you should use linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') to connect your sentences and paragraphs logically, ensuring that your argument builds clearly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas. There are several spelling errors, such as 'technonogy', 'interent', 'commpition', 'persude', and 'awared'. These errors, combined with limited word choice, make the writing feel informal and imprecise. To improve, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and expanding your vocabulary to include more precise synonyms. Using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary would help you convey your points more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other field students gets'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'competition... reduced' instead of 'is reduced'), and awkward sentence structures. The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used correctly. Practicing complex sentence structures will also help you achieve a more natural and accurate flow.
