Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Science has been the foundation for development in evolution. Yet, the amount of students choosing science in university level has been declining. The complex curriculum can be one of the reasons.
Firstly, science has alwasy been not only a complicated but also multidisciplinary subject which merges various fields for understanding a specific topic. Students who aim for a quick employment after their graduation donot prefer to go through the high degree of dificulty that science offers. Moreover, significant number of pupils find it hard to understand the subject and handle the laboratory work whih becomes a burden, so they choose arts and other fields which would help them finish their studies quickly. For instance, a doctorate degree became manditory qualification to be a scientist which many students are not ready to dedicate their time for such long years in studying.
This trend is triggering towards a decline in the science and innovation in many countires. The decrease in the scientific research is forcing some countries to depend on the developed nations for not only updated and new technology, but also for new pharmaceutical and medical applications without which the whole nation faces crisis. Furthermore, there is an alarming decrease in the number of health experts and physicians which is not able to be substituted in any other way. A lot of countries were dependant on vaccines from other countries during pandemic due to inediquate research facilities.
In conclusion, not enough students showing interest towards science is causing major implications in the society. Without changes in the educational standards and motivated teachers, it is not possible for students to choose science without fear. Shortage in research and innovation would indefinitely lead to a weaker society and underdeveloped country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying both the causes of the decline in science students, such as a complex curriculum and lengthy educational requirements, and the societal effects, including a lack of innovation and heavy reliance on other nations. The position is clear throughout the essay, and the main ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the need for a doctorate degree and pandemic vaccine dependencies. While some of the supporting points could be further elaborated, the task is answered thoroughly and meets the expectations for a Band 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are arranged coherently, moving smoothly from the introduction to the causes in the second paragraph, the effects in the third, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and cohesive devices are employed with reasonable flexibility, such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion.' However, occasional minor referencing and transitional mechanical flaws occur, which keeps the response at a Band 7.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, incorporating terms like 'multidisciplinary,' 'pharmaceutical,' and 'innovation.' Less common lexical items are attempted with some awareness of style and collocation, although there are a few spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'alwasy' for 'always,' 'dificulty' for 'difficulty,' 'whih' for 'which,' 'manditory' for 'mandatory,' 'inediquate' for 'inadequate,' and 'dependant' for 'dependent.' These errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in the Band 6.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Students who aim for a quick employment after their graduation donot prefer to go through...' There are several grammatical and mechanical errors present, such as 'amount of students' instead of 'number of students,' 'in university level' instead of 'at the university level,' and 'is triggering towards a decline' which involves awkward phrasing. While these errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score, they rarely impede overall communication, reflecting the descriptors for Band 6.0.
