Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this age we saw that many students are not choosing sciences subjects at university. Their are many main causes of this .I am going to discuss some of main reasons from them.
Firstly, according to my perspective if I talk about my country there are a large number of students who chooses arts subjects instead of science subjects at university. I think that they do that because they want to enjoy the life of university. As we know that university life is very special and have a lot of fun .So they came university to have some fun and to enjoy university life. They bunk the classes did not take lectures go out with friends for fun . So that's why they did not choose science subject in university. So, on the other hand if they choose science subjects in university then they have to study hard and they have to attend all classes and have to attend all lectures. So if they do that then do don't have any fun at university and the university life is going to be too much boring. So that's why they don't choose sciences subjects.
It had a very bad impact on society because if they don't choose science subjects then they don't have a proper education they do not learn more things . They do nothing for the betterment of their society as the other doctor's, Scientists, Engineers do for the betterment of their society. In this way the society didn't get development.
By contrast, it is stated that mostly students didn't choose science subjects to have some fun in university life. So it is very dangerous for their society and the society didn't get development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing causes such as the desire to avoid hard work in order to enjoy university life, and effects such as a lack of societal development and shortages of professionals like doctors and scientists. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the argument about having fun. Phrases like 'They bunk the classes did not take lectures go out with friends' illustrate a tendency to over-simplify and rely on informal generalisations rather than fully extending academic arguments. Furthermore, the position is somewhat simplistic. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the lack of depth and recurrent repetition restrict the score. The response meets the minimum length requirement, so no length penalty has been applied. It aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are repetitive, overly simplistic, and sometimes inaccurate, such as the frequent use of 'So' to begin clauses and sentences, for example, 'So they came university to have some fun' and 'So that's why they did not choose science subject'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks sophistication. Referencing is also weak, with ambiguous pronouns like 'It had a very bad impact' where the antecedent is unclear. These mechanical and inadequate cohesive features place the response firmly in Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and basic, featuring frequent repetition of words such as 'university', 'science', 'subjects', 'fun', and 'society'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'sciences subjects', 'bunk the classes did not take lectures', and 'the society didn't get development'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic meaning of the student's arguments, the restricted range and persistent errors in collocation and word formation prevent it from reaching a higher band. It matches the Band 5 descriptor for a limited, repetitive range with errors that occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is poor. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Their are many main causes', 'mostly students didn't choose'), tense inconsistencies ('we saw that many students are not choosing'), missing articles ('choose science subject'), and punctuation errors like missing periods or run-on structures ('They bunk the classes did not take lectures go out with friends for fun'). Complex structures, when attempted, are frequently faulty. These frequent errors place the response at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the presence of some correct simple clauses.
