Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries there is not enough students are choosing to study science at university because of its scope in society. Students choosing other subjects like arts, business etc. students choosing other subjects play a very important in society.
In many countries students not choosing to study science at university have many causes in society. The fees structure to study science in universities are comparatively high than remaining subjects thats why students are not choosing to study science and deciding to study subject which have low university fees. Government should take action on this, and give leniency to students and allow to take students. In my opinion this technique is useful for students to choosing science at university.
Science are comparatively difficult than other subjects and the admission criteria is also very high than other subject thats why students choosing other subjects. Universities should compromise on the admission criteria and give admission to those students who are willing to take admission. Universities give rewards to those students who take science give students internships, house job and jobs . Science jobs are comparatively low than other subjects.
Science students play an important role in society. Government should promote science and in courage students to take science subjects because science play a important role in society. The development of any country depends on science. Everything is depends on science like construction, medical, and daily life .
If government shouldn’t take action the interest of students in science should be down and students take others subjects .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, identifying causes such as tuition fees and admission criteria, and effects like the importance of science in daily life and development. However, the ideas are repetitive and underdeveloped. For instance, the text mentions that 'fees structure to study science in universities are comparatively high' and that science is 'comparatively difficult,' but these points lack deeper elaboration or specific examples. The position is generally clear, but the lack of strong extension and support across paragraphs aligns this response with a Band 5.0 level. The content is relevant to the topic, yet the arguments tend to circle around the same general statements about society and government action rather than fully exploring the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic organizational structure with multiple paragraphs, attempting to separate causes and effects. However, overall progression is lacking, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by repetitive statements and abrupt transitions, such as jumping between university fees and admission criteria without clear signposting. Paragraphing is used, but the grouping of ideas is erratic; for instance, effects are mixed into paragraphs discussing causes. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, and referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'this technique is useful' without a clear antecedent. These cohesion and progression issues place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and frequently repetitive, relying heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'students choosing to study science at university' and 'important role in society.' There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fees structure,' 'give leniency to students and allow to take students,' and 'in courage students.' While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general topic of studying science, the limited range and frequent inaccuracies in word formation and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band, reflecting a typical Band 5.0 performance for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic coordination. When complex structures are attempted, they are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence: 'In many countries there is not enough students are choosing to study science...' Punctuation and subject-verb agreement errors are common throughout the response, including 'fees structure... are,' 'Science are comparatively difficult,' and 'Everything is depends on science.' These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of grammar, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptor well, though the presence of some correct simple sentences allows a lenient consideration for Band 4.5.
