Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to discuss both causes and effects regarding the lack of students studying science. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the discussion on causes drifts into general statements about student marks and university admission, while the effects section focuses broadly on the usefulness of various professions (e.g., doctors, cashers, pilots) rather than systematically analysing the direct impact that a shortage of science students has on society. The position is also somewhat confused by the phrasing 'we will discuss both sides of this essay'. Because the ideas remain under-developed and lack specific, well-reasoned support, the response fits the Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall progression lacks clear logical flow. Transitional markers are used repetitively and often inaccurately, such as 'On the one hand... On the other hands' and 'firstly... furthermore... in addition'. Referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader to guess the connections between clauses, as seen in sentences like 'moreover, some learners choose mathematics and economic fields because individuals learn about news things which is existance in world.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structuring of ideas within the paragraphs is disjointed and mechanical, placing this performance at Band 4.5, which rounds to Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice and collocation errors that occasionally hinder comprehension. Examples include 'large strength choose this field', 'focue choose different fields', and 'poilet' for pilot. The student attempts to use less common items such as 'beneficial', 'community', and 'opportunities', but these are often incorrectly formed or spelled (e.g., 'existance', 'oppotunities', 'casher'). While the language is minimally adequate to convey a basic narrative regarding career choices, the high frequency of lexical errors limits the score to Band 4.5, rounding to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the text. The response relies heavily on simple sentences and basic structures, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences ('this era is technology everyone know about new things of technology so the large strength choose this field') and fragments. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with sentences beginning without capital letters in places. Due to the limited range of structures and frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
