Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes such as the perception of science as challenging and peer influence, and effects such as a shortage of scientists and healthcare professionals alongside economic imbalances. However, the development of these ideas is limited and often superficial. For example, the statement that a lack of science students results in 'less developement in technology' is relevant, but the reasoning remains brief and lacks concrete examples or thorough expansion. Additionally, minor assertions like 'scarcity in employement at particularly arts, comarce and diploma field' are slightly confused and under-developed. While a clear position and structure are maintained throughout, the ideas do not reach the depth required for higher bands, aligning best with a Band 5.5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a clear overall attempt at organisation. However, progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions such as 'The issue in many nations have that' and 'In Upcoming future would be expected'. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or repetitively, such as 'Secondly' and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from run-on sentences and fragmented clauses, particularly in phrases like 'Which makes them uncomfortable to select particularly science department in university.' Overall, the logical flow is disrupted by structural slips, placing this text at a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'acadamics', 'choosen', 'unneccesary', 'thoughs', 'factore', 'engeeniers', 'developement', 'scaricity', 'employement', 'comarce', 'creats', 'tearm', 'vogue', and 'incresing'. The writer attempts some less common academic terms like 'prevalent', 'globalisation', and 'measures', but these are overshadowed by frequent basic lexical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The range is minimally adequate for the task, best reflecting a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure. For instance, 'The issue in many nations have that' features an incorrect verb form, and 'Another factore is influencing by their friend's decisions' misuses the passive voice. Sentence boundaries are frequently blurred by incorrect relative pronoun usage, such as starting a new sentence with 'Which makes them uncomfortable...' or 'Which creats long tearm challenges.' These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the performance firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
