Student answer (Band 5.0)

We live in a world where education is not limited just to get a job but to learn skills.

In 19th and 20th century, a low proportion of people were educated and most from this proportion belonged to science. The evidence can be seen through the great inventions and laws that took place in yhe era from 1880s to 1990s. But today, a large proportion of people are going towards philosophy, engineering, arts, fashion, mediaand artificial intelligence.

The biggest cause of this problem is the global change that made it easier to earn money through social media. A person can just turn on his/her camera, do some steps, get a million views and earn millions as well whil the one studying day and night remained unallocated even after clearing a test. The biggest example can be seen in Pakistan where influencers have great protocols than 18th grade officers and it's a biggest reasons behind the increasing rates of suicides among medical students.

Secondly, today most of the companies hire staff based on their physical appearance and fashion sense rather than meritm People are becoming more focused to get fit through gyms and to look cool through fashion and it's the reason most people also choose to study as well to earn loads of money in future.

Finally, in my opinion, none of the study has side effects, it all depends upon you that how you utilise your skills in your academics. We must adapt ourselves to the changing demands of society we live in to achieve our financial goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, identifying causes for the decline in science students and discussing effects on society, such as societal values shifting towards social media and fashion. However, the development of ideas tends to wander and focuses heavily on anecdotal or extreme assertions, such as claiming that companies hire based entirely on physical appearance rather than merit. The position is somewhat blurred by tangential remarks, such as the concluding philosophical comment that "none of the study has side effects." This places the response in Band 5.0, as it addresses the task but ideas remain limited, slightly under-developed, and lack rigorous support.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, though the logical progression is at times difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting paragraphs with "Secondly" and "Finally" when the flow of argument is disjointed. Referencing can also be unclear, such as the transition from discussing Pakistani influencers to medical student suicide rates without adequate bridging explanation. The overall organization shows some structure, but the mechanical and occasionally faulty use of cohesive devices, alongside repetitive referencing, keeps the response at a Band 5.0 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it is limited and sometimes inappropriate in style or collocation. Examples include phrases like "do some steps," "remained unallocated," and "great protocols than 18th grade officers." There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "yhe era" and missing spaces like "meritm People." While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the errors and restricted range place this criterion firmly at Band 5.0, where lexical limitations begin to cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently result in grammatical errors. Examples of faulty structures include "whil the one studying day and night remained unallocated even after clearing a test" and "it's the reason most people also choose to study as well to earn loads of money in future." Punctuation and tense errors are also frequent, such as "In 19th and 20th century" (missing articles) and run-on sentences. These recurring errors that cause occasional difficulty for the reader align the grammar with Band 5.0.
