Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding the causes of declining science enrollments and the effects on society, but the development remains limited and incomplete. Specifically, the student notes causes like 'less lab facilities, zero experiments' and briefly touches upon societal effects such as economic impacts and the need for skilled professionals. However, the essay is truncated abruptly mid-sentence at 'in conculsion, the pupils' and falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, totaling only 236 words. Because the task is unfinished, the ideas are under-developed, and a length penalty must be applied, the response aligns best with a Band 4.5 level of task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

Paragraphing is attempted, with the student starting an introduction followed by 'on the one hand' and 'On the other hand' transitions. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted. The second paragraph abruptly shifts topics, and the concluding section is incomplete, trailing off after only four words. Cohesive devices such as 'To cite an example' and 'Moreover' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical structural layout cannot overcome the severe truncation at the end of the text. Overall organisation shows some basic framework, but the lack of an actual conclusion and abrupt shifts correspond to Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several word-choice and spelling errors that strain the reader. Examples include 'opporunities' for opportunities, 'backgrounge' for background, 'authories' for authorities, 'entrace' for entrance, 'tecnology' for technology, and 'worls' for world's. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'eligibility' and 'professionals', noticeable errors occur frequently, restricting the lexical range to a minimally adequate level. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptors for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing contains a mix of simple sentence forms alongside some attempts at complex structures, such as 'Many countries need skilled professionals in area such as medicine which will also increase the economy of the country.' However, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors occur throughout the text, including missing articles ('in modern world', 'due to lack'), incorrect pluralisation ('not proper notes facilites'), and preposition mistakes. Furthermore, the abrupt termination of the essay leaves grammatical structures unresolved at the end. These recurring errors and the limited structural range place the response at a Band 5.0.
