Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of students choosing science less and the effects on society. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes superficial, characteristic of Band 5. For example, the causes are generalised as students being 'lazy as well as less IQ,' which lacks mature academic reasoning. Similarly, the effects mention students preferring to become 'advanced level gamers' and creating a 'vulnerable nation,' which lacks sufficient support and depth. While a position is presented throughout the essay, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and rely on sweeping claims rather than fully extended arguments. Therefore, it fits the Band 5 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and weak cohesive devices. For instance, the transition 'Most of the youngsters do not wanted to adopt science' and repeated sentence starters like 'This may results in' create a mechanical and somewhat confusing flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links between sentences are frequently faulty or inaccurate, such as jumping abruptly from student laziness to societal crises. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. This performance aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent word choice and collocation errors that impede natural expression. Examples include 'less choosing of science subject,' 'low level understanding,' and 'finanically rewarding.' The student attempts some less common items such as 'contemporary society' and 'rigorous,' but the noticeable errors in word forms and spelling (e.g., 'reults', 'enginners', 'intreset') cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a standard typical of Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently contain basic errors. There are numerous persistent grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('students wants', 'Most of the youngsters do not wanted'), incorrect verb forms ('Students are do not interested'), and preposition misuse. Punctuation and article usage are also weak. Because frequent grammatical errors cause significant strain for the reader and limit the control over complex structures, a Band 4.0 is appropriate.
