Student answer (Band 5.0)
Every year, a lot of students graduate from a high school to enroll the universities. The majority of learners do not prefer the science major, which include many subject such as physics, mathmatics, and chemistry. As a result, the number of students in this major are the lowest comparing to the othersubjects. So, there is many reasons and effects for this issue.
Some students find the science major very challenging in a high school. they get low scores in their academic test, then the negative feeling starts to grow in their brain, therefore the learners will not choose to study science in the university, especially if the teachers affect badly on their mental health as a consequence of their low sores. For example, many graduated students do not prefer to become a teacher in the future or become a scientist. Other important reasons is, students may tend to the practical majors like businesses and artcraft.
However, this may lead to various effects on the community in general. The number of teachers will decline rapidly so, the labour shortage will rise significantly in schools and universities. The old teacher will suffer a lot, due to pressure and stress which increases many mental illness in their health. For instance, the educators in the university will explain the course in a short time which makes the students do not understand anything.
In conclusion, when students do not prefer the science major, that is because various reasones, like bad scores.
That is lead to manyeffects in the education sector, for instance, the stress will increase so much on the teachers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes for the decline in science students, such as challenging high school experiences and negative test scores, as well as societal effects, including teacher shortages and increased stress in education. However, the development of these ideas is limited and at times repetitive. For instance, the discussion on teachers in the third paragraph shifts focus slightly to the pressure educators face rather than broader societal implications. The position is clear, but the support lacks depth and specific real-world examples, keeping the response at a Band 5.0 level where ideas remain somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and effects, and a brief conclusion. However, the overall progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'as a result', 'therefore', and 'for instance', which are sometimes overused or misused (e.g., 'That is lead to many effects'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is very brief and repetitive, summarizing points already made without adding new progression. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun ambiguity in the second paragraph. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'university', 'science major', 'challenges', and 'labour shortage'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation throughout the essay. Examples include 'enroll the universities' instead of 'enroll in universities', 'mathmatics' (spelling), 'graduated students' instead of 'graduates', and 'reasones' (spelling). These lexical inaccuracies and restricted vocabulary range cause occasional strain for the reader, placing the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and causal clauses ('if the teachers affect badly', 'when students do not prefer... that is because'). However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of students... are', 'there is many reasons'), preposition errors ('in a high school' instead of 'in high school'), and awkward word order or tense usage ('the learners will not choose'). While basic meaning is usually conveyed, the frequency of errors causes regular difficulty for the reader, matching the official Band 5.0 descriptors.
