Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes such as financial costs and perceived difficulty, and effects such as a shortage of professionals and economic decline. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. For instance, the point regarding the difficulty of science is reiterated across multiple sentences without significant expansion. Furthermore, there is a penalty applied because the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 248 words. The position is clear, but the lack of sufficient length and depth prevents the score from reaching a higher band level. These limitations place the performance at a Band 5.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs covering the introduction, causes, and effects. However, the progression within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as the sudden shift using 'Also there is shortage' or 'Therefore, there is lack'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'The reason of that is the high cost is involved and it consider very difficult task'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow is frequently compromised, demonstrating characteristics typical of a Band 5.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent inappropriate word choices and word-formation errors. Examples include 'it consider very difficult task', 'countless efforts', 'easily achieve', and 'knew Edward medical university'. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'economy is badly affected' and 'shortage of doctors and scientist', but these attempts are marred by grammatical and collocational inaccuracies. Spelling and word formation issues, such as 'thier', 'lacking', and 'professionalist', occasionally impede understanding. This lexical range is limited and minimally adequate, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty complex constructions. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement and passive/active voice confusion, such as 'the high cost is involved', 'it is found very difficult task', and 'pupils from low-income family can't cope up the expenses'. Punctuation and article usage are also weak throughout the response. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, aligning with a Band 5.0 score.
