Student answer (Band 4.5)

Some people think science is good for their study in university and make their future, however if every people take science for their study so how people get other knowledge for their culture or like bussinness knowledge. I strongly agree with the notion that students choosing study science at university there are many causes.

On one hand, In many country students are persuing science course to continue their studies and this is not good for our country and also for our future generation because if every student take only science course then no one don't no about their enviroment and about their culture that their ancestors how they live and manage their difficult life, only students then believe in facts and practical. Futhermore students have no ethics to how to react with their parents and their live with their society.

On the other hand, Australians students comapares to other country is very high percentage to persuing sciece course because the parents give every freedom to their children to any thing what you can like and then many of their children take science course to continue to there studies and this is not good because the Australians students don't understanding the enviroment needs. Apart from that the Indians students prefer course of enviroment to get knowledge about their enviroment and also to get knowledge about their ancestor to how the control the complex situation of their life.

In conclusion, many students persuing science course to continue their studies like Australians student this is not good for our future generation beause the believe only in facts and practical on the other hand Indians student prefer enviroment course to get knowledge of their ancestor and enviroment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing causes such as parental freedom and the effects of focusing solely on facts rather than culture. However, the development of ideas is limited and confused. For instance, the discussion regarding Australian and Indian students appears somewhat contradictory and off-point in relation to the global causes of declining science enrolment. The position is sometimes unclear due to weak formulation and tangential arguments. Furthermore, the ideas lack clear support or relevant examples, leading to an over-generalisation about students' lack of ethics. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs reflecting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows some basic organisation. However, there is no clear overall progression of argument, and the transition between ideas feels mechanical and repetitive. Cohesive devices are either inadequate or misused; phrases like 'On one hand,' and 'On the other hand,' are deployed incorrectly since they do not present contrasting viewpoints of equal weight in a balanced argument. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'their' and 'this,' which creates confusion for the reader. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. These features place the response firmly in the Band 4 to Band 5 range, leaning towards a 4.5 due to the severe disruption of logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'study,' 'science,' 'knowledge,' and 'good.' There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'persuing science course' instead of 'pursuing science courses,' and 'don't no' instead of 'don't know.' Attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'ancestor' and 'complex situation,' are marred by inaccuracies and inappropriate stylistic application. Spelling and morphological errors are noticeable throughout the text, including 'bussinness,' 'enviroment,' and 'comapares.' Because the lexical range is limited and errors cause some difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 4.5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure. For example, sentences such as 'however if every people take science for their study so how people get other knowledge' and 'no one don't no about their enviroment' demonstrate a severe lack of control over basic English grammar. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and comma splices occurring frequently throughout the text. Because errors are frequent and constantly strain meaning, the response meets the criteria for Band 4.0.
