Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes for the shortage of science students (such as in-depth studies and lack of practical skills) and effects on society (reliance on limited professionals and reduced innovation). However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. For instance, the discussion on causes reiterates practical requirements without expanding into wider socio-economic factors like career remuneration or alternative degree appeal. The position is generally clear, but some sentences lack logical continuity, resulting in a somewhat superficial treatment of the prompt. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are either overused or misused, such as 'Additionally' and 'For an instance,' which do not always connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns and demonstratives. These characteristics reflect the Band 5 level, where some organisation is evident, but overall progression lacks clarity and cohesion is inadequate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice and collocation errors. Examples include 'not enough enrollment are assigning,' 'in-depth studies that not every student contain,' and 'space specialist.' While the writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'innovative technologies' and 'responsiblle field,' these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and inappropriate grammatical forms. Lexical inadequacies occasionally impede communication, requiring the reader to deduce the intended meaning. This falls squarely into the Band 5 category, characterised by a limited and minimally adequate range of vocabulary with noticeable errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. Numerous basic grammatical errors are present throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement issues ('science subject is very practical, require practical knowledge') and incorrect verb forms ('may very release by the person'). Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent ('within the contry simultaneously in the world'). These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and mean that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the rule. This level of control corresponds to Band 4, where errors are frequent and often distort meaning.
