Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a tendenacy of not being folllowed science at university by students in most of the countries. There are several reasons which affect for this problem such as as the complexity of the subject areas and the cost of the programme. As a result of that it would impact on the society adversly due to less innovations and the slow growth in the economy.

In today's world the university students are chossing other fields of streams to major in thier higher studies such as Art, business management and psychology etc. As per the recent statistics, there is a poor number of students who are choosing the science as their highest educational qualification. There are various reasons behind of selecting other subjects over science. The foremost factor is the difficulty of the subject of science, being a subject of combination of bio, Physics and chemistry. With that being said, it is true that the stream of science is a broader concept which consisits of numerous learning areas. Therefore, students find the difficulty of grasping the knwledge of science. He or she should be mastered in studing those science concepts so as to pass succefully thier exams. Hence, for an average student who lacks confidece and skills falling behind to grab that kowledge and they show reluctancy to choose the subject of science.

Not only that but also, when compared with other progarmmes , science is university degree which accompanies valuable resources such as expert lectures, studiy materials, facilitated laboratories and highest technolgy so as to utlize for students' success. When considering these resources, it is obvious cost incured for scinece programme is somewhaat high because of wages to lectures, capital contibuted for labs and other technological devices. Therefore even students who are interested in folllowing science at university, it would be a barrier for them because of the cost which cannot afford by middle - income families.

Conseqently, this will impact adversly on the paticular society because of creating a shortge of professionals who are into science. This will lead to not having sufficient experiments and research to uplift the standard of the country's society. Less professionals means less innovations and novel products. Additionallly, this would be resulted for a downward trend in economic's growth.

By concluding all the facts, we can emphasize that its required to increase the number of students to pursue science as thier university programme for the society's betterment and for the younger generation's life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of fewer students choosing science (complexity and high costs) and the societal effects (shortage of professionals and slower economic growth). A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is sometimes hindered by over-generalisation and a lack of specific, concrete examples. For instance, the discussion on university resources and tuition costs is relevant, but remains somewhat broad without referencing any particular country or context. While all parts of the prompt are covered, the depth of explanation fluctuates, placing this response securely in Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and effects, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. Phrases like 'Not only that but also' and 'By concluding all the facts' feel awkward or unnatural. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as in the opening sentence where 'a tendenacy of not being folllowed science' is structurally confusing and lacks smooth connection to the subsequent sentences. Overall, despite clear logical progression, the overuse of awkward cohesive devices limits the score to Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including 'innovations', 'complexities', 'middle-income families', and 'economic growth'. However, there are numerous word choice errors, spelling mistakes, and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'tendenacy of not being folllowed science', 'poor number of students', 'cost incured', and 'shortge'. These lexical inaccuracies and frequent spelling errors ('chossing', 'thier', 'consisits', 'knwledge', 'succefully', 'confidece', 'kowledge', 'reluctancy', 'progarmmes', 'studiy', 'technolgy', 'incured', 'scinece', 'folllowing', 'Conseqently', 'paticular', 'shortge', 'Additionallly') occasionally impede communication and restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with structures like 'When considering these resources, it is obvious cost incured for scinece programme is somewhaat high...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, voice, and sentence construction. Examples include 'affect for this problem', 'is university degree which accompanies', 'the cost which cannot afford', and 'its required'. These errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, although the meaning can generally still be deciphered. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
