Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding the causes of fewer students studying science and the effects on society. However, the task achievement is severely compromised by the length requirement, as the student only wrote 135 words against the 250-word minimum. Furthermore, the discussion of the effects is cut off entirely with the sentence 'Lets , talk about the the effects', leaving the second half of the prompt unaddressed. The ideas presented, such as science subjects being difficult or expensive, are relevant but remain very basic and under-developed without adequate extension or supporting examples. Consequently, the response earns a band score of 4.0 due to the incomplete nature of the task and failure to meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text suffers from significant organizational issues. While the writer attempts to introduce different points using transitional markers like 'Second reason' and 'And one more causes', the paragraphing is fragmented and erratic, with single sentences standing alone as separate paragraphs. The flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by broken phrasing, repetitive sentence structures, and an abrupt halt at the end where the effects are merely promised rather than discussed. Referencing is often unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'This the the main reason behind the enough students'. Overall, the logical progression is weak and disconnected, corresponding to a band score of 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on simple words and phrases copied directly from the prompt, such as 'study science subjects at university' and 'Arts subjects'. There are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'science subjects are expenise' and 'lack of knowledge about importance of the science subject'. The writer attempts some basic descriptive terms, but the lack of variety and frequent word-choice errors constrain the range. Because the vocabulary is repetitive and contains errors that occasionally strain comprehension, this criterion is awarded a band score of 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of fragmented or simple sentence structures with frequent structural errors. There are persistent mistakes in basic grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'In many countries their are not enough students', 'not enough students are choosing the science subject', and 'every field of life. This the the main reason'. Complex structures are largely absent, and the frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and prepositional use can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader. Therefore, a band score of 4.0 is appropriate for grammatical range and accuracy.
