Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the difficulty of science as a cause and its negative impact on national development as an effect. A position is presented, and the main ideas are extended to some extent. However, the development of ideas relies heavily on repetition and generalization rather than specific, well-supported examples. For instance, the explanation of why students find science difficult simply restates that it is complicated and confusing multiple times. Similarly, the discussion of the effects on society mentions fields like 'medicle, engineering, computer,' but these ideas remain somewhat underdeveloped. Therefore, the task achievement aligns best with Band 5.5, tending toward Band 6 for addressing all parts of the prompt, but limited by repetitive development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. Information and ideas are generally organized with a logical sequence moving from causes to effects. However, referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty or mechanical. The student relies on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'To exaplain this,' 'As a result,' and 'To exemplify this perspective' in a rigid manner. Furthermore, referencing pronouns like 'it' and 'this' are sometimes vague or ambiguous, making the logical progression feel somewhat mechanical rather than smoothly flowing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'contemporary era,' 'predominant,' 'pertinent examples,' and 'hamper the development.' However, there are numerous noticeable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'intrested,' 'unversity,' 'exaplain,' 'finds' instead of 'find,' 'medicle,' and 'numerious.' These lexical errors and awkward collocations detract from the overall quality, though they do not completely impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if the majority of students do not prefer science...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many pupils finds,' 'many students does not like,' 'the subject science plays'), punctuation issues (missing spaces after periods), and run-on sentences with redundant conjunctions (e.g., 'and if the students does not give importance to science, so it will...'). These persistent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.5 criteria.
