Student answer (Band 4.5)

In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. The main causes of this and effects it had done on society are writen below.

Firstly the causes,In my opinon i think why not enough students are not choosing to study science in many countries beacuse due to lack of focus on study .Most of young people only focus on the mobile phone and social media. It is not good while studying.Young students are only foucsing on online games. They did not went to university on time. They only went to for vist to other places beside going university. The lack of concentration on study.

Secondly, effects that have done on society due to lack choosing science at university. If there will be decreasness of science student it is not a good thing. If there will not any science students. There will not any doctors, eneginers.Which will effect to our society. If there will not any science student it will also hard for the teachers who teaches the science,If there will not any science students then how they can teach and earn money. It will effect to their life.In society it will hard to survive for the science teacher to survive to societ. It will mostly effect to the teachers. If there will lack of scicence students.

In conclusion,i think that there should not be lack of science students. There family teaches and friends should motivate them that if they are capable students they should study science. From science we can learn about the enviroment and about the new technology. So science is most important subject if they are capable to study they should study that subject.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing causes such as a lack of focus and distractions from mobile phones, and effects such as a shortage of professionals like doctors and engineers, as well as the impact on science teachers. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and rely heavily on simplistic generalisations rather than deep sociological or economic arguments. For example, blaming mobile phones and online games as the primary reason for a decline in university science enrollment lacks academic depth. The position is somewhat clear, but the overall development is limited, corresponding to the Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows basic organisation. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the transitions between ideas are abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, such as the frequent use of 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'If there will not any'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is frequently confused. For instance, the second body paragraph mixes the shortage of science students with the livelihood of science teachers in a disjointed fashion, placing this criterion at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'study', 'science', 'students', and 'society'. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'lack choosing science' instead of 'a lack of students choosing science', and 'decreasness' instead of 'decrease'. The range is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, but spelling and morphological errors (such as 'eginers' for engineers and 'enviroment' for environment) are frequent and noticeable, fitting the Band 4 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting predominantly of simple sentences and repetitive conditional structures ('If there will not any...'). There are severe and frequent errors in basic grammar, tense usage, and sentence structure, such as 'effects it had done on society are writen below', 'They did not went to university', and 'It will hard to survive for the science teacher to survive to societ'. These persistent errors frequently distort meaning and cause difficulty for the reader, aligning with a Band 4.0 score.
