Student answer (Band 5.5)
Science has been playing a crucial role in people's lives. In numerous regions across the globe, few pupils are opting for science at an undergraduate level. This will have myraid consequences in the upcoming future. i will elaborate the both sides of the picture in my upcoming dicussion.
The key factors leading to decline in the trend to choose science are as follows. To begin with, the scientific speciality has quite difficult jargon. Learners are often find it hard to grasp the topic from the base. Forexample, i studied pharmacy and the terminologies like agonist, antagonist are conflicting and challenging to understand. In addition to this, the concepts of the underlying mechanisms often overlap between different topics. To cite an example, the anxiolyitcs and antidepressents acts on the same receptors but produces somewhat different results. Lastly, the practical knowldge is limited, the lectures are put on a slideshow by the professors who fails to present visual graphics about how the disease or drug affects the body.
It will have serious reprecussions for the coming generation. The dwindling interest in the scientific sector will contribute to lack of innovation. It can be in the diagnostic or treatment related sector. Ultimately the society will suffer. To quote an example, during my university time, students only focused on repeating the practicals which very already performed instead of going for new drug formulation to treat ailments. The economic impact will be drastic as the lack of innovation will lead to stunted growth in the medicine sector. It will affect the livelihood of major chunk of population.
Overall, this shrinking interest in scientific field is prevalant in university level. The causes are difficult jargon, complex concepts and lack of practical knowledge. This will rise to lack of innovation and economic shockwaves. It is better to encourage students to take active interest in biology so we can uplift this sector.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the causes of declining interest in science and the effects on society. The ideas presented are generally relevant, such as the difficulty of jargon, complex overlapping concepts, and the lack of practical knowledge, as well as the resulting lack of innovation and economic impacts. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal examples, which places the response firmly in Band 6. Furthermore, the introduction contains a slightly inappropriate conversational meta-statement ('i will elaborate the both sides of the picture in my upcoming dicussion') which detracts slightly from formal academic tone. Nevertheless, all prompt requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, moving from an introduction to causes, effects, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different main ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' and 'Lastly,' are used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, and pronoun control fluctuates (such as lowercase 'i' instead of 'I'). Furthermore, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the progression feel a bit disjointed in places. These features align well with the Band 6 descriptor, where cohesion can be somewhat mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and subject-specific terms such as 'undergraduate level', 'anxiolytics', 'antidepressants', and 'receptors'. However, there are notable spelling errors and inaccurate word choices throughout the text, including 'myraid' (myriad), 'speciality' (specialty), 'Forexample', 'anxiolyitcs', 'antidepressents', 'acts' (act), 'reprecussions', 'which very already performed' (which were already performed), and 'prevalant'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching a Band 7. The vocabulary is minimally adequate and shows a mix of appropriate academic terms alongside basic lexical slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at varied structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text. Examples include capitalization errors ('i will'), subject-verb agreement errors ('the professors who fails'), spelling of transitional phrases, and minor structural awkwardness like 'Learners are often find it hard'. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning is generally clear and they rarely impede overall communication. This performance fits the Band 6 profile, which features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures alongside recurring errors in grammar.
