Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of fewer students choosing science, such as the rise of artificial intelligence and social media influence, as well as the societal effects, including a lack of awareness regarding disease formulations. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion around technology and social media remains generalized without concrete examples. The writer attempts to take a position, but the expression of ideas lacks sufficient extension and depth. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed partially and ideas remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organization, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently hindered by awkward transitions and poor logical flow. For example, sentences like 'Analyzing the statement and explaining further it is asumed...' create abrupt shifts in thought. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or mechanically, as seen in 'As science plays a crucial role to defeat with any specific disease and its epidimiology,' which fragments the connection between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, placing the response firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'choosen' instead of chosen, 'unawre' instead of unaware, and 'epidimiology' instead of epidemiology. The writer attempts some less common terms like 'exaggerated materials' and 'advancement,' but imprecise word choices and frequent spelling mistakes restrict the range. Collocations are often unnatural, such as 'low attractions towards science.' These characteristics correspond to Band 5, showing a limited range and noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text contains frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'The importance of science was always debatable and has been more controversial over the years' and 'technology ... which is attracted more towards the students.' Complex structures are attempted, but they are frequently faulty, leading to distorted meaning in places, such as 'the world is only be of the intelligence.' Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. These issues match the Band 5 descriptor where attempts at complex sentences are often faulty and frequent errors cause difficulty.
