Student answer (Band 5.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether only few students choose to learn science at university. This essay will discuss the main problems associated with this issue and its effects on the society.
One of the major cause is having variety of subjects. Learners are free to choose their subjects according to their interests and pursue their career in that field. It is not necessary that everyone love to learn science, some are good at maths, history and english which are also play vital role in society. If all the students choose technical field, other sectors like banks and schools leads to lesser workers which effects the society. Secondly, students want to choose easily future goals because science is the subject that needs more attention and they hard work to crack the entrance exams. Due to vast competetion only few got admissions and rest of the students purpuse their studies for next year. It is not good for they mental health and they waste their year in this.
Nevertheless, choosing other subjects bring more opportunities to the learners. Their are variety of jobs which needs workers like lawyers, police men, drivers, teachers, sales man, accountants. These jobs are also white collar and have brighten future for the students. Having variety of jobs not only balance the country but also rise the nation's economy and good for its overall development.
In conclusion, learners have right to choose their syllabus according to their wish by which they pay more attraction towards their study and obtain good marks in their examination.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—though the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the argumentation is occasionally confused. The essay suggests that the variety of subjects is a cause of low science enrollment, which is only tangentially related to the core causes of this societal trend. The effects on society are touched upon, such as workforce shortages in other sectors and impacts on the economy, but these points lack sufficient elaboration and clear examples. For instance, the claim that science requires students to work hard to crack entrance exams is presented without deep exploration of why this discourages university enrollments. Overall, the response meets the minimum requirements of the task by attempting all parts, but it falls into Band 5 due to under-developed ideas and a position that is not entirely clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion, but the overall organization is hampered by abrupt transitions and faulty paragraph logic. For example, the second body paragraph introduces the effects on society while simultaneously discussing causes and individual student choices. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'Secondly' and 'Nevertheless', and referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'by which they pay more attraction'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal unity and progression within paragraphs need strengthening. Overall, the structural flow aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where some organization is present, but clear overall progression is lacking.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary to discuss education and careers, including terms like 'university', 'career', 'economy', and 'development'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'only few students', 'technical field', 'easily future goals', 'vast competetion', and 'brighten future'. Spelling errors ('competetion', 'purpuse') also occur. While the vocabulary allows the writer to convey basic points about subject choices and job opportunities, the frequent inaccuracies place it firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that often impede comprehension. There are recurring issues with subject-verb agreement ('society' vs 'societies', 'science is the subject that needs more attention and they hard work'), incorrect verb forms ('leads to lesser workers which effects the society', 'only few got admissions'), and word form errors ('they mental health' instead of 'their mental health', 'rise the nation's economy' instead of 'raise'). Complex structures are attempted, but they are frequently faulty. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the writing matches the Band 5 criteria for grammar.
