Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, in many countries few children are taking interest in studing science at universites. There are reasons, while it affects society snd economy in bad manner. In this essay we will discuss the cause and effects.

From my perspective, there are many factors due to which students have of interest in science. Initially, many children have difficulty in studing and understanding science related subjects such as, chemistry, physics and maths. Due to lack of interest they choose other fields which are arts and economics. Subsequently, the teaching method affected them so much, because they ask the children to learn by heart rather than showing them practical examples. For instance, a science student don't understand how to do operation by reading in books, so it's crucial to do practical.

In addition, It has bad impact on society and on economy of the country. If students don't study science there are lack of doctors, engineer and buisnessman. We have to rely on rebotic things or should hire people from other countries related to these fields. Furthermore, it also affect the economy because many funds came from these fields and for the development we have to hire international people. For example, for the construction we have to depend on international engineers, so it cost alot and it affects the budget of country.

In conclusion, students not choosing science because they find it hard to understand , its due to the teaching methods and lack of interest. This will have devastating impact on the economy and society of any country. We should improve our teaching methods and try to built interest amoung students by showing practicals and their advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying causes, such as difficult subjects and poor teaching methods, and effects on society and the economy, such as a shortage of professionals and heavy reliance on foreign experts. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of the economic impact could be supported with deeper elaboration rather than simple assertions. Looking at the descriptors for Band 6, the candidate addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some extension is limited. The response is awarded a Band 6.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into four paragraphs with a recognizable introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall logical progression. Cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Subsequently', and 'In addition' are employed to connect ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate causes and effects. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor lapses in logical sequencing keep the response at a Band 6 level. The Coherence and Cohesion score is 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'development', 'construction', and 'international engineers'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'studing' instead of studying, 'universites' instead of universities, 'snd' instead of and, 'buisnessman' instead of businessman, 'rebotic' instead of robotic, 'amoung' instead of among, and 'alot' instead of a lot. These errors demonstrate a limited control of word formation and spelling, aligning well with the Band 5 descriptor where noticeable errors occur, though the vocabulary remains minimally adequate to convey the core message. The Lexical Resource score is 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('If students don't study science there are lack of doctors...') and relative clauses. However, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a science student don't understand', 'many funds came', 'it cost alot'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('While it affects society snd economy in bad manner'). These errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. This performance fits the Band 5 criteria for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
