Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response touches upon some causes, such as the expense of private universities compared to public ones and students' lack of interest, and briefly mentions effects, such as students moving abroad. However, the ideas are underdeveloped, repetitive, and heavily obscured by poor expression. The writer attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding causes and societal effects, but the arguments lack clear extension and logical support. The position is somewhat unclear due to the conversational greeting and disjointed delivery. As a result, the response fits best into Band 4.0 as it attempts the task but remains very minimal and difficult to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response fails to use paragraphing effectively, presented instead as a single, continuous block of text spanning over 250 words. Cohesive devices are used in a rudimentary and repetitive manner, heavily relying on conjunctions like 'and' and 'because' to string clauses together into run-on sentences. There is a lack of clear logical organization and progression throughout the writing. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. These characteristics align closely with the Band 4 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms like 'science', 'university', 'future', and 'countries'. There are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'multiplier reason', 'basis reason', and 'take a good design for your future'. While the writer attempts to use less common items, inaccuracies in word formation and choice are pervasive and often strain the reader's understanding. However, the vocabulary is just sufficient to communicate a basic topic, placing the response at Band 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical structure of the response is extremely weak. The text consists almost entirely of poorly controlled run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions, lacking standard punctuation such as periods to separate distinct thoughts. There are frequent basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('universities is', 'countries having') and incorrect tense usage. Complex sentence forms are virtually absent, and the heavy accumulation of errors frequently distorts meaning. This performance is reflective of Band 4.0 criteria.
