Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
First, it must be noted that the response falls significantly short of the minimum word count requirement, reaching only 158 words instead of the required 250 words, which heavily impacts task completion. Regarding the content, the response partially addresses both parts of the prompt by touching on the causes (poverty and lack of resources) and effects (students choosing arts or missing out on jobs, and hindered national development). However, the position is not always clear, and the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention that 'some universities is not provided the advance technology' is left without adequate expansion. To move to a higher band, you would need to fully develop your ideas with extended explanations and examples, while ensuring the writing meets the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response shows some basic organization, but there is a distinct lack of clear overall progression and logical sequencing. Information and ideas are grouped together in a single dense paragraph rather than being structured into a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Furthermore, cohesive devices are largely missing or inadequate, making the transitions between ideas abrupt. For example, moving directly from university facilities to the societal impact ('it will savour affect on society') lacks a smooth logical bridge. Referencing is also unclear at times, such as the pronoun use in 'they work day and night'. To achieve a higher score, you must organize your thoughts into distinct paragraphs and use appropriate cohesive devices to guide the reader logically through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate to express basic ideas related to education and finance. There is an attempt to use topical terms such as 'intermediate', 'poverty', 'resources', and 'advance technology', but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling occur throughout the text. Examples include 'savour affect' instead of 'severe effect', 'collages' instead of 'colleges', 'compition' instead of 'competition', and 'persue' instead of 'pursue'. These errors, combined with incorrect word forms like 'continued' instead of 'continue', occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, you should expand your range of vocabulary, use less common items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at more complex structures or conditionals, such as 'if some of them going at university level they don't study sciences', are faulty. Frequent errors are present across verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'Not all the students choosing', 'is not provided', and 'the sciences field is not having'. Punctuation and capitalization are also poorly controlled, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and missing apostrophes in contractions like 'didnot'. These frequent errors can cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To progress, you need to broaden your range of sentence structures and improve grammatical accuracy through careful proofreading.
