In various nations, several students do not prefer to study science at university due to several reasons. This essay will discuss the primary causes of this trend and its consequences for society.
One of the major reasons of not choosig science at university level is financial constraint because of skyrocketing university fees of the universities especially for science subjects. To be precise, there are many families who cannot afford the fees and tend to take loans. It creates financial pressure to meet basic needs and pay the fees for children. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the causes and the societal effects of students choosing not to study science. Your main ideas are relevant, noting financial constraints, personal interests, and the subsequent impact on innovation and the reliance on foreign talent. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the point about students wanting to choose options like 'accountant, singer and so on' is rather brief and under-developed, and your example comparing India and Japan is introduced abruptly without sufficient elaboration. To move to a higher level, you should extend and fully support all your main arguments with deeper explanations and more integrated examples, ensuring every point receives equal and thorough exploration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and each body paragraph is dedicated to a distinct theme—causes in the first body paragraph and effects in the second. You use a satisfactory range of cohesive devices to structure your writing, such as 'One of the major reasons', 'Apart from this', and 'Firstly'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly repetitive, and referencing can occasionally feel abrupt, as seen in the transition between sentences in your second body paragraph. To achieve a higher score, you need to manage your cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure smoother logical transitions between sentences and paragraphs, so that the progression of ideas feels completely natural and unobtrusive throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'skyrocketing university fees', 'financial constraint', and 'deficiency of logical and critical thinkers'. Communication is not impeded by your lexical choices, but there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word form. For instance, you wrote 'choosig' instead of 'choosing', 'do no learn' instead of 'do not learn', and 'new inventions' where terms like 'technological innovations' might be more precise. To reach the next band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, demonstrate a better awareness of collocations, and eliminate spelling and word-form errors entirely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You successfully use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures, such as sentences containing 'who can manage complex situations'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical slips include article and preposition usage within patterns, such as 'reasons of not choosig', 'at university level' needing an article or plural form in certain contexts, and the phrasing in your conclusion ('there are various possible factors of not choosing science at higher level of education is financial and mental burden'), which contains subject-verb agreement issues. To progress further, you should produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over grammatical structures and agreement.
