Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response sits at this level because it responds to the task only minimally, failing to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words (containing only 131 words). While the student attempts to address both parts of the prompt—causes such as fear of science subjects, and effects such as the need to employ professionals from outside the country—the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack sufficient support. For instance, the mention of dementia and blurred vision as causes for not studying science is tangential and unclear. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to write significantly more, fully develop their main ideas with relevant explanations and examples, and ensure all parts of the prompt are explored in depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall, reflecting a struggle with logical organization and progression. The text features awkward formatting, with run-on sentences and problematic paragraphing, such as an incomplete structure where the third paragraph consists of just a single, isolated sentence ('futhermore, individual who has phobia for blood cant study science and these tends to scare many away from science fiield'). Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as the mechanical transition 'in the following paragraph i shall expaciate futher' which is followed by fragmented points rather than a well-structured essay. To improve, the writer needs to group related ideas into clear paragraphs and use logical cohesive ties to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous errors in spelling, word form, and word choice that strain the reader. Examples of lexical weaknesses include spelling errors like 'hihger', 'te', 'sceience', 'beacuse', 'employed', 'enginering', 'expaciate', 'futher', 'studen', 'neccesitate', 'suufering', 'demensia', 'dont', 'blurr', and 'fiield'. Additionally, word choices such as calling universities 'hihger institution' and using 'collegians' are unnatural in this context. To move up to a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range beyond everyday terms, utilize appropriate collocations, and drastically improve their spelling and word-form accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak, characterized by a very limited range of structures and frequent errors that distort meaning. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this have a negative impact', 'science courses has been', 'sciences is'), punctuation and capitalization errors (e.g., lowercase 'i', missing spaces after commas), and fragmented or run-on sentence constructions (e.g., 'due to te fear of sceience fields and this have a negative impact'). Complex sentence attempts are faulty and unreliable. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate control over basic grammatical structures, improve punctuation, ensure proper agreement between subjects and verbs, and incorporate accurate complex sentences.
