Student answer (Band 5.0)

Most of the countries are not having appropriate amount of students who like to study science at university. It is not a good indication for the betterment of the society as development depends largely on the people who have sufficient knowledge in differnet sectors of science.

The main reason of not choosing science is fear. Most students find it very hard and complex ,so they don't want to take risk. Besides , studying science requires more passion, dedication and problem solving mentality than other subjects.A lot of students become depressed seeing complex formulas and theories of science. Another reason is that other branches of education are giving more opportunities to students. Thus , the number of student choosing science is declining.

The society is definately getting effected by this reduction.A lot of industries are run by people who know how machines work.If the industries don't get enough skilled emplyees ,their improvement will be decliend. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both causes and effects, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the causes are briefly attributed to fear and lack of opportunities without deep extension or strong supporting examples, and the discussion on societal effects remains somewhat general. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence in the final paragraph, resulting in a failure to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words. The position is stated, but the overall development remains partial, keeping the score at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic organization with distinct paragraphs introduced for the causes and the effects. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the abrupt ending and choppy transitions between sentences. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes repetitive or mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'Besides' to link arguments. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing and logical flow occasionally falter, which prevents the essay from achieving a more fluid and structured organization.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with simple terms like 'betterment', 'complex', and 'industries'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form throughout the text, such as 'differnet', 'definately', 'effected' instead of affected, and 'emplyees'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccuracies in collocation and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the lexical range from expanding beyond basic adequacy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, punctuation spacing (such as missing spaces after commas and periods), and verb forms, as seen in 'Most of the countries are not having' and 'their improvement will be decliend'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader, and attempts at more complex structures often result in faulty grammar.
