Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both causes for the decline in science students and the effects on society, positioning it at this level as it only partially covers all aspects. While ideas are introduced, they remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of artificial intelligence and overloaded technological advancement is briefly touched upon in the third paragraph without fully expanding on how this directly deters students from traditional scientific paths. Similarly, the societal consequences, such as research reaching its lowest points, are stated rather than supported with extended explanation or concrete examples. The writer's position is generally apparent throughout the essay, but the lack of thorough development in both causes and effects prevents the response from achieving a higher standing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the text, with a clear introduction and conclusion framing the body paragraphs. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear, as ideas occasionally jump abruptly between points, such as moving from technological advancement to research time and then to financial constraints without smooth transitional logic. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be mechanical or somewhat repetitive, such as 'To begin with', 'Subsequently', and 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs are very brief and fail to fully develop a central topic, affecting the logical flow of the argument from one paragraph to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common items such as 'paramount role', 'hindrance', and 'financial instability', but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'sytudy' for study, 'preffered' for preferred, 'highjer' for higher, 'cacreer' for career, and 'percieved' for perceived. Additionally, phrases like 'the science demands time to research and on findings of it' show awkward lexical patterning. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the lexical range from appearing fully natural or precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at more complex forms which are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the essay that can cause difficulty for the reader. Notable issues include subject-verb agreement errors like 'Scientific subjects has' and 'public do not find', article omissions and misuse such as 'opt science subjects', 'in last years', and 'to field like business', as well as awkward prepositional use. Punctuation and word form errors within grammatical patterns also persist, indicating that control over complex syntactic structures needs considerable strengthening.
